< >SHENYANG: The Northeast China city of Shenyang is to play host to the Sino-EU Economic Summit on September 14th as part of the country's rustbelt rejuvenation strategy.

< >The three-day conference will focus on pushing forward manufacturing co-operation.

< >According to organizers, the summit, which is alternately held in China and the EU, is one of the most important meetings between the two sides.

< >"The conference will push forward EU's industrial transference process and advance the rejuvenation of China's northeast," said Li Jun, President of Shenyang Council for the Promotion of International Trade.

< >Trade between Shenyang and the EU reached US$1.27 billion last year, making the EU Shenyang's leading international trade partner.

< >"Most EU investors choose to put money into the manufacturing industry which is Shenyang and Northeast China's specialist area," said Cui Limei, a researcher from the Liaoning Development Research Centre, a local government think tank.

< >Many EU industrial giants have entered northeastern China, including BMW, Volkswagen, ABB, Siemens and BASF.

< >Cui also suggested that Northeast China enjoys a comprehensive heavy industrial chain for the petro-chemical and steel industries. In comparison to its heavy industry, the region's professional manufacturing and service systems are rather poor. This provides EU members with greater opportunities. "The co-operation would be win-win for both sides," Cui said.
