Police kill suspect in Shenyang armed robbery hunt

Public security organs in Liaoning Province have solved an armed robbery case, killing one suspect and arresting the other after they shot and robbed a Shenyang resident on Friday, according to the Liaoning Provincial Publicity Security Department (LPPSD) Sunday.

The attack took place at around 9 am on Friday when Wen, the victim, was shot in the head and robbed of some 40,000 yuan ($6,100) on his way home in the Huanggu district of Shenyang. Wen survived but remains in hospital.

According to nearby residents, Wen, a pork seller, was returning home after withdrawing 40,000 yuan from a bank, and was shot near the door of his home, the Beijing Times reported.

Wen was immediately sent to the hospital and was transferred to the intensive care unit after three hours of surgery. He remained in critical condition over the weekend.

The news was confirmed by a press officer of the Shenyang Public Security Bureau, who said yesterday that the case was still under investigation.

"The victim had been watched by the suspects for quite a long time before the attack," said a policeman at Huanggu police station, the Beijng Times reported.

One of the suspects, Wang Liping, was arrested by the local police later on Friday with  the guns being seized, China News Service reported.

Another suspect, Jiang Haitao, was found in Kunshan road in Shenyang on Saturday night before being gunned down during a standoff with police. At least two policemen were hurt during the fight.

"The gunfight lasted for more than one hour not far from my home, many police cars gathered and blocked the roads," said a Shenyang resident surnamed Kang.                 

The two injured policemen were in a stable condition yesterday, according to the LPPSD.
