did make it to Central Chidlom to do some shopping yesterday. After an
hour of browsing, I decided to buy one T-shirt. There was nothing else
that I liked. It had always been like that. The selection at Chidlom
had actually grown significantly over the past year, but always only a
very tiny portion of what's on offer appealed to me. Most of the
clothes there are overly-commercialised and meaningless.

Central
is the largest and best department store chains in Thailand. My mom and
sister are big fans of its main branch, Central Chidlom, which is also
its nicest and best branch. The most luxurious and trendiest food court
in Thailand is on the top (7th) floor. The store is a bit like a
smaller, cheaper and less cluttered version
of London's Selfridges. Most of the brands available are either Thai
or international high-street (including M&S). Recently it's been
trying to move up-market by letting some space on the ground floor to
several luxury brands, such as Ferragamo, Bally, Burburry and CK.

Central
has just launched a new version of its store credit card. The older
version of Central cards have been replaced by Central Master cards.
Previously all Central cards were red. The only things that
distinguished a more "special" card from the others were the words
"Foundation Member" that appeared on the card of the card holders who
had been holding Central card since the first time Central launched its
store card. Along with the normal benefit of a 5% discount on any
purchases made with their cards, Foundation Members could use the store
lounges and attend sales previews. Top spenders of any particular
branch of Central could also park in the Priority (VIP) Parking areas
of any Central branches (very very convenient).

Central has
since decided to more clearly designate the status of its customers.
Now there are 3 types of Central store cards: Platinum, Gold and
Red. Along with many other benefits, those who hold the Platinum and
the Gold have the right to use the Platinum (super-VIP) Lounge and the
Gold (VIP) Lounge respectively. Those who hold the Red still gets the
5% discount, but don't have any other priorities.

Any way, I met
up with one of my friends for dinner. She's interested in organising a
music festival in Thailand, something on the same par with Glastonbury
Festival in the UK. We are currently moving very slowly towards the
realisation phase...

Time to do some work!

|
